A HARD DAY'S STARRY NIGHT - MUSSAR 2018, 28" tall, 6" bloom, 14 buds, 3 way branching. Tet. SEV, Midseason bloomer. (Speckles x Drop Cloth). I have long liked the strong patterning and colour contrast this cultivar has to offer. The streaked pattern reminded me of a galaxy or constellation and led to the name. Pod and pollen fertile.

Very pretty with somewhat twisty petals, so it has been hard to get a good picture. I don't remember fertility, but think it was somewhat reluctant to set pods.
Named for my friend Alice, who chose this whimsical name herself.

The mesmerizing blooms of AZURE DREAMING are lavender with a violet-blue eye etched mulberry and recurved ruffled mulberry and violet-blue edge over a green throat. The eye color can change from saturated cobalt-violet to frosted blue-violet and other hues in between. I’ve even seen this one with some pattern from time to time. The flowers of Baby's Got Blue Eyes are creme white with a patterned blue, purple, and maroon eyezone and a very green throat. This is a wonderful garden plant, 32 inches tall and very showy. Has a really cool pedigee with tetra in The Navy in it twice and tetra Crystal Blue Persuasion in it three times. tetra Virginia Henson is also in it twice. As well tetra Wings of Chance, tetra Elsie Spalding and tetra Spell Fire to name a few. First Blue eyed dormant double I know of. Very rare!

HYBRIDIZER GAYLE STORY'S NOTES:
BLACK AMETHYST 4" bloom, 21" scape, Mla, Sev, fragrant: This daylily is hard to describe as the coloring never seems to be quite right in the photos. The base color is a dark red-purple, with lighter veining of pink giving the appearance of light shining through it. It reminds me of black amethyst glassware when held up to the light, hence the name. Throat is a dark green, further enhancing the color of the blooms. The clump is made even more attractive by the very black buds of the unopened blooms. This daylily is a very fertile breeder, tending to be a color clarifier. Good for the front of the border for something different and eye-catching. Great parent for unusual colors, tends to be a color clarifier.

Flowers of Black Wolf are burgundy black with a multi-colored triple edge and dual colored white and gold teeth, capped off with a green throat. This is my best toothy introduction of 2017, and one that makes people stop and stare in the garden. It brings a dark color rarely seen in a toothy flower with a hard dormant line that also grows well in the south. If you pick just one flower this year- it should be this one. Grows well across zones- tested in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, Alabama and Florida. Easily pod and pollen-fertile, it has been a great parent, passing on its stunning looks and saturated color on to its kids.

The first time it bloomed as a seedling, it looked like it was plugged into an electrical outlet. Turns out, that wasn’t a fluke! This highly sought- after plant is very limited. BLUE LIGHTNING has given me some outstanding kids with glowing color. Vigorous and fertile both ways.
